47th PSLA Annual Conference: Discover Your Superpower

Picture

Dear PSLA Members and Friends of PSLA-

It is with deep regret that I announce the cancellation of the 47th Annual PSLA Conference scheduled for April 30 – May 2, 2020. PSLA leadership has been following the continuous updates from the CDC and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. As a result of their recommendations and in working with Hershey Resorts, the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association Board of Directors has made the very difficult decision today to cancel the face-to-face conference.

The annual conference has been our largest event each year since 1974 and has never been canceled, however, COVID-19 presents unprecedented health risks to the community. The health of our members and their families, our vendors and sponsors, and Hershey Lodge staff is of utmost importance, so it is with this in mind that we have come to this decision.

If you have made hotel accommodations at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center using the conference lodging link or by calling and requesting PSLA's group rate, your reservation WILL BE CANCELLED automatically. Any deposits or payments relating to lodging will be refunded from Hershey Resorts. Please do not call the hotel to cancel your room reservation.

We ask for your continued patience as we work through this difficult and unprecedented situation to determine policy and procedure for registration refunds. We will be making an announcement as quickly as possible while we determine the financial implications for the association and also potential hardships for those that have already registered. We are committed to doing what is in the best interest of everyone.

We are currently discussing options for a virtual PSLA Business meeting as well as possible virtual professional development opportunities for the school librarians in Pennsylvania. PSLA will begin planning immediately for our 47th Annual Conference, Discover Your Superpower, scheduled for April 15 -17, 2021, at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, Hershey, PA.

On behalf of the PSLA Board of Directors, thank you for your continued support and understanding. I am confident that our members and the school library community in Pennsylvania will remain strong and know that their greatest impact at this time is our support of K-12 students and the staff members in our schools.
