Resisting Book Bans: A Crash Course to Defend Intellectual Freedom

These last few years have been challenging for us with community groups, politicians, and even our neighbors  asking about our curriculum, collections, and book selections. To help address these challenges we are pleased to announce our upcoming professional development online course on resisting book bans presented by Library Journal / School Library Journal Professional Development. This 2-hour course will focus on proactive preparation to ensure you can react and respond appropriately.

Resisting Book Bans: A Crash Course to Defend Intellectual Freedom
Thursday, March 2, 2023, 2pm – 4pm EST

You will learn:

  • tangible ways to handle censorship,
  • tips for finding allies and building coalitions,
  • tactics for school board meetings, and
  • strategies to ensure your library policies are up to date, and
  • how to appropriately defend intellectual freedom.

We’ll discuss best practices for engaging and educating stakeholders in your organization to ensure everyone is equipped with appropriate responses and prepared when challenges arise. This is a professional development course that you don't want to miss!

You will receive a zoom link prior to the session.  The session will be recorded for you to view if you are unable to attend live.  Certificate of Participation and Act 48 hours will be awarded when you submit the session evaluation to PSLA.
