American Library Association's Directory of ALA Accredited LIS Master's Programs

Arcadia University, Glenside, PA - This university offers a school library certification as part of their Master of Education program.

Clarion University of PA, Clarion, PA  -- Department of Library Science - Offering undergraduate, graduate, and advanced certificate level programs, Clarion University's library program is ALA accredited (Master's Level).   Clarion offers a traditional, on-campus program, as well as distance education opportunities at Dixon Center (Harrisburg), Philadelphia Area, Southpointe (Canonsburg).   Web-based courses are under development.

Commonwealth of PA's List of approved library schools lists colleges that have state-certified library science programs.

Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA -- College of Information Science & Technology, Information on School Library Media Certification - Drexel offers an ALA accredited Master's program and an Information Science and Technology doctoral program.  Although the school certification appears to be an on-campus certification, some of Drexel's information science and technology programs are available online.

Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA - Department of Library Science - Kutztown offers undergraduate and graduate level programs.  Their web site also includes basic information on certification requirements.  According to their web site, "Kutztown is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and has program approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Both the undergraduate and graduate Library Science Programs are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)."

Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA- School Library Program - Mansfield's program is accredited by PDE and Middle States and offers a nationally NCATE-AASL reviewed and approved School Library Media Education Program. It offers a comletely online Master of Education degree with an add-on school library media certification for currently certified teachers.

Marywood University offers PA certification in library science, a Master's degree, and advanced certificates. These programs are accredited by Middle States and PDE.

Saint Vincent College, Latrobe, PA - The Masters of Science Degree in Library Media Management will certify candidates in K-12 library science. The program is designed for certified and non-certified teachers wishing to obtain school library certification in grades K Ð 12 and/or an advanced degree in library-media services for children. All courses will meet the requirements for certification by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA - School of Information Sciences, Department of Library Science - Pitt offers an ALA accredited graduate program in library and information sciences, a certificate of advanced study, and a doctoral level program.   In addition to their on-campus program, Pitt also has an online, distance education library science degree program called "FastTrack."
