Certification Requirements

Act 34 and 151 Background Checks are required of all potential teachers and school librarians in Pennsylvania.

Commonwealth Library - School Library Services Division lists school librarian certification requirements.  Unlike other areas of the  Department of Education Web Site, this site focuses on school librarian certification requirements and lists Pennsylvania colleges that have approved school library certification programs.  This site also lists school library publications and contact information for the staff of the Bureau of Library Development - Division of School Library Media Services.

PA Teaching Regulations - includes Title 22: Chapter 49, Title 22: Chapter 354, and Act 48 (continuing education requirements).  In addition, Act 34 and 151 background checks are required of all potential teachers and school librarians in Pennsylvania.
