Legislation Committee Information
Purpose Of the Legislation Committee
To ensure that all Pennsylvania's K-12 students have access to a quality school library staffed by certified library media specialists with a collection of print and electronic resources and technology that meets state school library guidelines.
Committee Work
The Legislation Committee strives to position Pennsylvania's school libraries as an essential and integral component of a quality education program for all K-12 students in the following ways:
- follow, support, and notify the PSLA leadership and members about federal and state legislation relating to school libraries,
- initiate legislative actions and recommend language in regulations and school code about school libraries by working with legislators and their aides,
- build relationships with other state education and child advocate organizations, and
- write articles and offer conference workshops to educate members and other educational stakeholders in advocacy efforts and strategies.
Any PSLA member who wishes to assist in these advocacy efforts is encouraged to join this active committee by contacting Deb Kachel, PSLA Legislation Chairperson at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
