Previous PSLA Leadership Project Winners
Purpose
The purpose of this program is to find and encourage the growth of new leaders within the structure of PSLA. The program includes several segments and all applicants must agree to complete all elements of the program. Those chosen to participate are expected to put their leadership skills to use by completing a project from the list developed by the PSLA Board of Directors and to serve on a committee of PSLA for no less than a two-year term of service.
Participants will be chosen through an application process. Applicants will be reviewed and scored by members of the PSLA Board of Directors. Once chosen, the winning applicant will be assigned a mentor from the Board of Directors and, depending on the assigned project, a committee contact person. All project materials created will be the property of PSLA.
Eligible Applicants
- PSLA Member
- 35 or younger or a new librarian (any age) with fewer than 5 years experience as a school librarian
- Must be able to attend both the PSLA Summer Leadership meeting and the full PSLA Conference and work on the assigned project throughout the year to meet the assigned deadline
- Must be ready to commit to serve on a PSLA committee for a minimum of two years upon completion of the program
Stipend
As part of the program, PSLA will pay for the applicant's travel cost to the Summer Leadership meeting, and registration, hotel, and travel cost to the annual conference not to exceed a total dollar amount of $750.00.
Applicant Responsibilities
- Choose a project from the list of possible project topics
- Review the project description provided
- Specify the project goals
- Identify the customers of the project
- Determine the deliverables
- Decide on the specific activities
- Develop and follow a projected timeline
- Ensure the project meets stated goals
- Maintain communication with designated Board mentor and committee contact person (if assigned)
- Discuss the experience in a Learning & Media article/website/conference workshop
