Young Readers Booktalk/Slidetapes Scripts

The Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Awards Program Book Talk Scripts for 2008-2009

Introduction

The following are 4 different book talk scripts, which may be used to introduce the Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Award Program to students. There are scripts for the Kindergarten to Grade 3 division, Grade 3 to Grade 6 division, for the Grade 6 to Grade 8 Division, and the Young Adult Division. If there are questions, please contact the Committee through Jean B. Bellavance. She may be reached at (work) 215-461-1044 or (home) 215-643-5048 or through e-mail at bellavance@verizon.net.

We have included Internet links which can help you and your students more fully appreciate the books. You can also find more information about the books and authors by using databases available through PowerLibrary. These scripts are meant to be used and adapted as you wish. Feel free to copy and share them with other librarians in your district. Some librarians take slides of the book covers and record the script and present it during library classes. Others have made transparencies of the covers, or color copies and used the opaque projector. If you are really brave and have the software, try a HyperStudio or PowerPoint presentation. By all means make a recording or you will lose your voice. Better yet, have your students record the script or read it aloud.

Booktalk Scripts:

It's easy to participate. Just read or listen to at least 3 books from the list by
March 1.  Your teacher or librarian will help you keep a record. In March, you will
receive a ballot so you can vote for your favorite.
